Head and Neck Surgery

General characteristic

On the basis of “Nairi” MC, the Service of Neck and Head Surgery started acting in 2019. The mainstreams of the Clinic’s scientific and practical activities are the optimization of diagnostics’ methods and complex approach in the treatment of pathologies in this field. The Service performs a wide spectrum of surgical interventions on the head and neck, notably: onco-surgery of head and neck, surgery of thyroid gland, reconstructive surgery of head and neck, oral surgery and traumatology.

At the moment, our clinic is the only surgical subdivision in Armenia, which performs all types of open surgeries regarding tumors of the head and neck. The treatment is realized according to the cancer treatment international guidelines (NCCN, ASCO, ESMO). As appropriate, the difficult cases are discussed on the tumor boards of the local and foreign leading oncologists.

Active surgical activity is carried out during the following pathologies:

  • Tumors of head and neck skin
  • Tumors of thyroid gland
  • Tumors of salivary glands
  • Tumors of mucus membrane of nasal cavity and its paranasal sinuses
  • Tumors of mucus membrane of oral cavity
  • Tumors of different parts of the tongue
  • Tumors of the lower and upper jaw
  • Tumors of the lower and upper lip
  • Tumors of different parts of pharynx
  • Tumors of larynx
  • Tumors of the neck, including secondary lesions of lymphatic nodes of the neck
  • Different fractures of the bones of visceral cranium
  • Infection complications of maxillofacial region
  • Out – patient maxillofacial surgery

To the patients with advanced tumors, simultaneously with the tumors removal, we perform the reconstructive stage, which helps with the shortening of the time – terms of the patients’ rehabilitation, as well as to the early recovery of independent respiration, speech, swallowing act. We use different types of plastic reconstructive surgery. We perform single – stage and deferred installation of voice prosthesis, rehabilitation of the patients after the larynx removal, maxillofacial prosthesis.

The patients, who undergo the post – surgical chemotherapy or radiotherapy, are followed up. On patient’s will, we organize specialized treatment abroad. To each patient – individual approach.
