For the first time in Armenia, a unique operation of esophagus tumor was performed in the Surgical Department of the MC Nairi (head of the department - Prof. Adamyan A.I.) - thoracoscopic extirpation of the esophagus with its simultaneous full replacement by the gastric stalk, created by the laparoscopic method from the stomach. Exclusiveness of the operation is the use of minimally invasive surgical techniques - laparoscopic and thoracoscopic methods. Up to date, such operations in Armenia have not been carried out. Such kind intervention has been carried out only by the traditional "open" method.
The patient applied to the MC Nairi with complaints of pain in the chest, difficulty swallowing and inability to eat, general weakness and weight loss. After a careful examination, the patient was diagnosed with a tumor of the middle third of the esophagus.
In May 12, 2017, a surgical team led by the head of the first Surgical Department of the MC Nairi, prof. Adamyan A.I. (surgeons Melixetyan FG, Adamyan TA) under the general anesthesia with separate intubation of the lungs, provided by the head of the Department of Anesthesiology and resuscitation of the MC Nairi AS Gnuni has performed the unique intervention - on throat - thoracoscopic extirpation of the esophagus with a one-stage plasticization by stomach tube by Mac Keown. The patient was discharged in good condition on the sixth day. Currently he lives an active life and fully uptakes food.
Similar toraco-laparoscopic operations in the world are conducted in large specialized centers, and now are available in Armenia. Successful performance of the operation was possible due to the high professionalism of the specialists and highly equipped surgical room of Nairi MC.
