Locoregional anesthesia. when general anesthesia is not desirable
23 December 2021 | News | Anesthesia, Intensive Care, Resuscitation | Anatoli S. Gnuni
Locoregional analgesia is the local elimination of a pain impulse by the blockage of nerves or nerve plexuses. It is performed under ultrasound control and/or by the use of a neurostimulator.
Locoregional anesthesia provides anesthesia during and after the surgery, avoiding the unwanted use of narcotic analgesics, which helps to avoid respiratory center depression, stasis(apnoea), vomiting reflex and hypotension.
The absence of postoperative pain also allows an earlier postoperative recovery, which prevents thromboembolic complications, pneumonia caused by blood stasis and pressure ulcers.
Another surgery using locoregional analgesia was recently performed at ''Nairi'' Medical Center․
