The virus mutates. Virologist explained why COVID-19 switched to youth
02 April 2020 | News | Therapy
Recent statistic data on the disease show that the new type of coronavirus has started to affect young people more frequently. A month ago, virologists considered that the young had stable resistance to the disease, and COVID-19 only affected older people. Why did the disease change its behavior?
Evgenia Selkova, virologist, says: "It can become more or less dangerous, change the points of attachment, adapt, looking for ways of life. Remember how many epidemics there were of various viruses: swine flu, avian, how aggressive they were. But gradually they adapted to the person. It is possible that the same thing happens with coronavirus – it mutates, selects other victims while becoming less dangerous”
