Exclusive surgery in ‘‘Nairi’’ MC, the life of the wounded officer was saved
An officer with a brain gunshot wound was taken from Artsakh to the Central Clinical Military Hospital where he was examined. The best specialists in Armenia were invited to confer whether it was possible to remove the bullet from the deep region of the skull or not. Specialists concluded that it was impossible to perform the surgery and remove the bullet without harming the patient and so refused to perform it. The surgery was crucial as the patient developed sepsis due to the fact that the bullet was in the deep region of the skull. The temperature elevated to 39 degrees Celsius and the condition was very serious.
A team of specialists consisting of Karen Sevterteryan, Head of the Maxillofacial Department of the Central Military Hospital, ‘‘Nairi’’ MC board of directors and Aram Hakobyan, MD PhD, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery made a decision to take the patient to ‘‘Nairi’’ Medical Center where an exclusive surgery was performed. Thanks to the only neuronavigational system, endoscopic technique and professional experience, it was possible to perform the surgery in Armenia, which lasted 12 minutes and as a result the bullet was removed without causing any damage to the brain.
The patient was taken to the Central Clinical Military Hospital the next day for further treatment. He was discharged and currently is receiving rehabilitation treatment.
