Gastroenterology and Endoscopy

Gastroenterology and Endoscopy

Gastroenterology is a branch of medicine that focuses on the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

Indications for a visit

Here are some common symptoms, which may require a consultation with a gastroenterologist physician.

  • Pain or discomfort around the stomach. If you have frequent pain in the upper or lower abdomen, and if the pain is long-lasting, intense, or accompanied by other symptoms, it may indicate various gastrointestinal problems.
  • Changes in appetite. Loss of appetite, or excessive hunger, and other changes in eating habits may be associated with gastrointestinal issues.
  • Digestive disorders: Persistent digestive problems such as acid indigestion, constipation, or diarrhea.
  • Unusual color, the presence of blood or undigested food particles, as well as the changes in texture of the stool, can be signs of dysfunction in the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Sudden and unexplainable weight loss
  • Non-specific symptoms, such as tiredness, fatigue, fever, and loss of energy.

When noticing similar symptoms, it is recommended to consult a gastroenterologist to get a professional evaluation, diagnosis, and, if necessary, treatment.
